What is the purpose of the Residential Tenancies Act in Alberta?

The Residential Tenancies Act is the legislation that currently governs landlord and tenant law in Alberta. The Act came into force in November 2004 and sets out the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants in Alberta.

Who should take this course?

This course has been designed to guide both new and experienced property owners, managers , employees and real estate investors in developing their professional skills and becoming familiar with the laws governing the fundamentals of the Residential Tenancies Act in Alberta.

How do I register for the course?

Alberta Residential Landlord Association members can register by visiting the Sign up page and entering in your information (Your email address will be your user name)  The course is Free for members and non-members please contact ARLA at 780 413 9773 for further information.  Once you are registered and your fee has been paid you can log in and begin taking the course. 

How long does it take to complete this course?

This course takes approximately 7 hours to complete, including the final exam.

  • Section 2: 1 Hour
  • Section 3: 30 Minutes
  • Section 4: 20 Minutes
  • Section 5: 25 Minutes
  • Section 6: 15 Minutes
  • Section 7: 20 Minutes
  • Section 8: 30 Minutes
  • Section 9: 5 Minutes
  • Final Exam: 20 Minutes

 

What are the system requirements to run the course?

To complete the SuiteSmarts training course you will need an internet enabled computer with one of the following browsers:

  • latest version of Opera
  • Internet Explorer 8.0 or higher

Is the course accredited?

This is not currently an accredited course.

Can I login to the course more than once?

Yes, you can log in and out of the course as many times as necessary in order to complete your training. When you log back into the course, you will be brought back to the lesson index that will outline your progress. You have six months to complete the course.

If you fail to complete the course within the specified six month period, your login and password will become inactive. You will be required to register to take the program again.

What do I do if I forget my password?

Please visit the login page and click the forgot password link. Enter your username in the screen that follows and your reset password will be emailed to you.

Do questions answered throughout the course count towards the final mark?

Questions answered throughout the course do not count towards the final mark. The final exam will be the determining factor in a pass/fail.

What is a passing grade for this course?

A passing grade for this course is 80%.

What happens if I fail the exam?

If you fail the rewrite examination you must re-enroll into the course.

What will I receive when I have completed my training?

Once you complete the course, a .pdf document will be made available for download through your lessons index. This document will include your final mark and certificate. The certificate includes your name, the date you completed the course and ARLA's Executive Director's digital signature.
